The Red Lion Hotel … Denver, Colorado

Vernon Garner and Joseph Kaderli both secure quick victories over their opponents at the Kickdown fight card promoted by Steve Alley. The two competitors from the Defense Institute were the first two Mixed Martial Arts fights of the evening.

Vernon Garner walked to the center of the ring to touch gloves with his opponent Joe Salley and that would be the last time Vernon would be hit all evening. After the initial bell, Vernon landed a monstrous leg kick and followed with a big right hand that dropped his opponent to the canvas. He quickly followed up with strikes on the ground that had the referee stopping the bout at: 09 seconds. This was recognized as one of the quickest knockouts in the Kickdown's history.

Joe Kaderli faced an opponent with much more experience in the martial arts world. Lawrence Gaytan has been a trainer, promoter, and competitor for a number of years. That experience wasn't enough to overcome the skill, technique, and training that Joe came to the ring with that evening. It was a battle of the grappler -vs- the striker. Lawrence tried numerous times to take Joe to the ground and each time he came up short because of Joe's phenomenal takedown defense. In fact the only time they ended up on the ground is when Joe punched his opponent and he slumped over onto it. After numerous exchanges the fight was finally stopped when Joe knocked his opponent out with a straight right hand and the referee stepped in to wave the bout off at 1:59 seconds of round #1.

Congratulations to both these athletes for their dedication that they brought to their training. This was also Sensei Robbie's first competition and win as a coach so he deserves congratulations as well.

Keep up the good work, we look forward to seeing you in the ring again soon.
